Your opponent can make a mistake
sree64

You are correct.

You see what I mean, glamdring?

So?  My opponent could decide he's bored and resign in a winning position or he could die at his computer mid-game.  World peace could happen too.  But I don't live my life for fantasies.  One game of chess doesn't matter.  If you jump out of your chair and get excited about winning because your opponent hangs all his pieces in a winning position then great.  Unless I'm playing bullet chess I don't care though.

sree64

I play blitz or rapid, not bullet. And not just a single match, it happens a lot of times.

I agree with Aaronprince
sree64

Would you repeat what Aaronprince said? I forgot.

sree64

You'll lose a whole game. Why lose? Why not play till the end?

glamdring27

And then still lose

sree64 and i will not resign ever

I resign when I make a move I didn't consider iykwim

Sometimes I try and calculate some lines, but then I am not totally satisfied or the position gets more complicated than I can handle at my level, and then I make a move I hardly considered because the other one didn't exactly work out. Then I usually see it was extremely stupid. Then I get mad. Then I quit. If I make a mistake that I thought was a good move when I played it, I will play on.

sree64

If you make a move you didn't consider, then why don't you continue?

Apart from all the games where both of you have resigned, making your points somewhat irrelevant!

In online games resigning can be a bit ok.... but in real games I don't.

sree64

After all resigning isn't so great. Can't anyone just wait for a minute to complete a game?

glamdring27

Real games last hours.  If my opponent agrees to cut all that short and mate me within a minute then sure, why not!

sree64

Do you think your opponent is crazy enough to think for hours!?

sree64

Nobody would on purpose wait for hours(An exception- Glamdring27).

Basically, because I don't like playing like that (in games that there is time to consider your moves). I will obviously play by intuition in time pressure, and I am getting better at that, but it makes me mad about myself, if my getting "disappointed", because my main idea turned out not to work out, results in me just throwing a move out there.

sree64

If you resign a match were you could have had a chance you would have been disappointed too!

nyangao

That is true. I have analyzed a game where my non-considered move turned out to be much better than what I was considering but was unsure about the order of moves... which was what led me to make the other move. I resigned and hopefully now I have learned my lesson haha

But still most of the time they turn out to be bad moves. But yeah maybe I should play on at least a bit more and see what happens.
