really a nice forum! it's difficult to fight the last statements. Because the definitions of the (so often used!!!) words 'hot' and 'cool' are in fact not precise.

Excellent reasoning, but you're not being idiomatic enough. If I remember correctly, this use of "cool" started with African-American musicians in Harlem circa the 1920s. They used to call a "hot" performer "hot," but when all the squares from the rest of the city started using "hot" to describe performers, they started calling people "cool" so they knew who was an insider and who was a square.
I don't know what they started calling people when the squares stole "cool" as well.
So in one sense, the set of Cool Things and the set of Hot Things could be identical.
