why won't people chat during game when they have plenty time to move ???

its getting more frustrating to play when most--- almost --all players refuse to use the chat function for simple questions or inquiries -- when you play a game live in person game - you at least acknowledge the person  you are playing-- no matter what the skill level - come people at least let the person at the other end know your not a bot at least

Unfortunately people have a history of being nasty in Chat. It is easier just to play the game and not chat.

If you find yourself playing the same people all the time send them a message (after your game) and ask if they want to schedule a time to play a game.

Cheers!

Perhaps, doker, when noone wants to chat during your 5 minute games, they're the sensible ones.

Another perhaps, Aussie, mayhap the game had a ten minute timer, and they had plenty of time, or even a non-timed game.

For chatting, you go on a date. For chessing, you go to chess.com.

I never want to chat during a game. I want to focus on my game, not on answering distracting questions. After the game I generally toss out a “gg”, but it’s rare to run across anyone that will respond back. Like mentioned above, most of the time online chat seems to only bring out juvenile nastiness.

Why would I want to chat with a random person? When I'm in a game I'm there to play chess.

There are a significant number of players on this site who use the chat to be rude; to try and put you off your game; and to just talk nonsense.

I disabled chat many years ago and have no intention of re enabling it.

Because if I talk I lose focus

I must say on the rare occasion when someone who chats isn’t an ass or trying to gain some advantage it can be a nice way to connect with the human being on the other side of the board. But mostly I don’t bother anymore except maybe to say gg once in while. Like most social media, the cons outweighs the pros so sensible people don’t bother.

Please don't be frustrated. I acknowledge you. I am not a bot. How can I be of further assistance?

Talking can be distracting

Tocqueville wrote about the strength of associations in America. The internet is uprooting that. Anonymity makes it so you can participate insincerely.

I do agree. Chess is a very 110% mind involved game. Chat tends to be a distraction.
