if you have to ask that you will never be a GM. they enjoy the game. so it's not any "work"

Are there any benefits to becoming a chess GM?
I heard they don't make very much money unless you are in the top 10.
also it seems like a lot of time and effort.
do GMs get free membership on chess.com? Maybe that could be a reason to work so hard to get a GM title
