Try to find what out what you are doing wrong. If you know what you did wrong its easier to find a solution.
There's a lot of books out there you can read. They'll help. It depends on how good you want to get actually. If you want to get to 1600 rating on chess.com then I would say just keep playing you'll get there eventually. It will take a looooooong time but you will get there. If you want to shorten that time, do tactics trainer daily. If you want to shorten that time even more I suggest you google this guys name: Dan Heisman
and read what he has to say on his website. If you want to take it a step further buy his book, chess improvement. If you want to take it even more further, take a lesson from him, so you can get access to his novice nook columns as well as get some insight from him and where you want to take your chess, tell him in advance you only want one lesson and just want an idea of what you have to do to get better, and he'll guide you.
Depends on how much time you have to :D...
There's a lot of other books out there that any beginer should read as a prerequiste to playing chess or playing in tournaments. FYI, if you ever want to be a tournament player, you'd have to read My System, it would be a MUST.
