It certainly won't attract as many people as football.

Personally I wonder if football will ever be as exciting as chess. This is a personal bias though. I don't like to many sports to watch. With football sure you can cheer for your team. With chess you get the chance to think for yourself. Now I do have a big bias here, I don't like football or soccer. I do like martial arts (k1) and chess. So I guess it depends on who you're asking. However, it's pretty obvious more people enjoy football as a spectator than there are people enjoying chess as a spectator.

If you are talking about American football then definetly no.  Otherwise, it's possible.

I'm not so sure. Now you can't hit a runner high, and often you can't hit him low. Tacklers don't know what to do. Tacklers CAN tackle a runner by grabbing his shoulder-length hair, though. Laughing

Now they're wearing pink everything. They even had a pink penalty flag for one game. (What were they thinking?)

It's more exciting than the NFL NOW for the most part!  For much of my life I've loved football. But they're ruining the game. It's a track meet where defense is virtually illegal. I refer to it as the NHL. No Hitting League. I have my favorite team I watch on Sundays, but I don't view any more than that. There was a time I watched every game aired in the area. No longer. I wish Chess was aired on TV with such regularity. I'd certainly watch that over most NFL games of late.

Yeah, some of the penalties they give out are pretty absurd.  I think each team does the pink thing for one game of the season, or something like that.  It's for a good cause, but it makes them look ridiculous.

And doduobird, halloween is over, just so you know...

I wished that the moderators on this site would make this forum a bit more mature and would use that banhammer for more than just cheating :(

The pink is worn because of breast cancer awareness month. A VERY good cause.

If you watched the candidates tournament online, I think a broadcast of that standard can make it main stream in North America. However, I would suggest they start off with blitz. Its fast pace and exciting! Its hard for a non-chess player to sit there and to wait 20mins for a move while the commentators going through 15 different lines.

The Short/Kasparov match was very much worth watching on TV. Somehow whenever you got home and switched on they were in a time scramble and the commentators were struggling to keep up with the moves. Very clever timing!
