It does not matter. Your rating gain is the same whether your opponent resigned, timed out or got checkmated. A win is a win, no matter how you got it.

will i gain more rating points if i win by checkmate or resignation rather than on time? in some of the daily games i have had, my opponent is just letting their time run out when in a losing position. does this affect how many rating points i get? or is a win a win and it doesn't matter how you win?
