Will playing the 2300 chess bot improve my skill?

Honestly I think improving my chess isn’t my problem, improving my mentality is. I get discouraged easily, I’m extremely impatient, and I overreact when I lose.

Yeah I used to play bullet seriously but now I just play it for fun, my main focus is blitz now and rapid in the future.

You should also be familiar with your middle game plans and ideas for both sides at this point. If not, do some homework. You mentioned doing Game analysis; that’s definitely a given.

Quit experimenting as well; your just wasting time and pulling yourself away for where you can be accumulating more experience with your current repertoire.

The plan is have a concise training regiment. Quality over quantity.

Start over fresh. Go back to the basics.

How are you going to do OTB if 15/10 is too long for you?

It’s the opposite for me, 15/10 is too fast. I don’t have enough time to do my blunder checks, go thru candidates moves, visualize my calculations clearly in critical moments, identify the tactics, strategies, plans and ideas for both side, transpositions and so on.

I just beat the score 2000 bot 3 times and drew once because I had a rook and king and the bot had just a king, I lost on time even though it was mate in 4( it was 3+0).What do you mean go back to the basics? I originally played 10 minute and got to 1300 and then switched to blitz and got to 1700 there and switched to bullet and got to 2200 and then took a long break and then switched to blitz to get to 1750-2000 and then took another break and now im fresh of the break and I’m trying to refresh my mind.

Generally it is best to stick with one time control.

As an example, if you wanted to get better at rapid, you would play rapid. You wouldn’t go play bullet and expect to get better at rapid?

Multitasking  bot play, bullet, blitz and rapid isn’t typically recommended for improving phases.

Yes but for your example isn’t the best because nobody is going to switch from 10 or 15 minute games to 1 minute. If I were to still play rapid now, I would probably be much lower ranked, switching time modes is why I got to the 2000 range quickly. Now I’m not going to switch but you see the point.

I know that.

You’re not the only case. I see it with my training partners.

Speed chess and OTB are two different segments. Everybody has a time control they prefer.

In terms of improvement in chess skills, classical is the way to go but because this is online chess; 15/10 is the best compromise.

Yet on chess.com it feels as though everyone gets judged on their bullet and blitz ratings not on rapid or daily.

I go to a casino and play poker or Blackjack; I play by the house rules. Online is a chess platform and it’s there for chess players because it fills a demand and the house rules.

Worst case, be an underrated online player.

I watched live the woman’s US Chess championships be decided by Armageddon which was a real shame. Then this week I am watching chess.com global championships and there is a lot of money on the line and one game was decided by Armageddon as well.

Reality is, there is no money for the masses so prioritize your goals and make a plan around those goals.

If you want to be a speed chess player, go right ahead. A rapid player, go right ahead. A classical player, there is no place here.

Improve your chess skills by playing bullet and bots, you tell me?

So if I play the 2700 bot, will I be able to tighten my lines and have less error in my openings and tactics?

It’ll tighten your opening for sure but the main objective is to explore one or two or a few middle game lines/plans/ideas and see if you enjoy the resultant positions?

As an example, I play the Sicilian and run into many anti-Sicilians at the club level and the Alapin is one popular anti-Sicilian where black literally has a handful of ways to equalize but you pick one reply afterwards and stick with it for your live games.

In a live game, you’ll recognize the pattern and have an idea where the middle game will go instead of burning the clock navigating for candidate moves and mitigating inaccurate moves.

The rated puzzles are for improving your tactics and because you have membership, you should be doing a dozen or two rated puzzles daily to stay sharp and accurately monitor your progress.

I just beat the Noam bot for the first time today even though we don't play the same openings as each other it feels like I am playing my self.

Nice one!

I don’t trust Noam, he’s quite the story teller.

Are tactics much more efficient for improvement?

Personally, if I had an hour available and my choice was do rated puzzles vs playing bots; I am doing rated puzzles.

What are you trying to achieve?

If you don’t want to do puzzles that day, play a game or two.

Somebody once said “tactics flow from superior positions”

Michaelaragones

Im trying to achieve an online rating of 2400 and higher if I don’t plateau
