That would be great if they sold a dvd portion.

You could probably rip the course to a DVD.  What's the rating it's meant for?  Judging from the line, " Do you not just want to be strong, but extremely strong?" It's probably targeting class B through expert.

"In fact it is not so difficult to study some opening lines or theoretical endgame positions."

Really?  Some Sicilians and even certain Queen's Indians have subtleties that make certain moves bad.  Even Karpov lost a game for screwing up a move order (with the Caro-Kahn).  1.d4,f5 2.Nf3! is hard to meet because white hasn't announced anything yet, and is waiting for 2...g6?! 3.h4!,Nf6 4.h5!,Nxh5 5.Rxh5!! with the refutation of 2.Nf3,g6.  That's critical for a Leningrad player like me.  If you don't know how to play against a gambit you'd get blasted off the board. Now, knights before bishops is a good policy if you don't know an opening right?  Correct... usually.

1.e4,e5 2.f4?,exf4 3.Nf3,d6!  but 3...Nf6?! the knight is a problem.

As for understanding endgame positions he needs to try going through Basic Chess Endgames (okay, as a Grandmaster he probably went through the whole thing at least three times, and these are basic positions!  Many are still tough to get through), the text oftentimes breaks up the move order while very subtle differences can be the difference between a win or a draw, and some would be hard over the board to evaluate as such without Fine telling us "white wins" or whatever.

Then again Smirnov is a prodigy so for him it probably was easy.  Cool
