Not really, because womens lib.started with Jesus. For he taught us the true worth and value of women in a completely male dominated society.
Derailing threads also apperently started with jesus. He has a lot to answer for, it seems.

As someone from Europe, living in Asia, I can imagine other explanations to that data than "conservative" vs "progressive".
For instance, "how free children are to do what they want on their free time" vs "how children are pushed (even beaten) to do what parents want".
Conservatism by definition means the preservation of the traditional way of doing things. In chess the tradition is that chess is not for women and they don't participate in it. So any trend that goes against this and increases participation can be considered progressive. This has nothing to do with 'liberalism' in the sense whether it is done a gentle way based on free choice or by force. There are examples of forced modernization throughout history. Instead of conservatism I could have used the term 'status quo preserving' and instead of progressive 'status quo breaking'.
Jesus v. Cthulhu No holds barred street fight
eye gouging, halo and tentacle pulling
who wins?
Tough call. One walks on water. The other lived underwater.
I'd have to know the length of the tentacles to provide an accurate guess.
Aftet my 54 years upon this planet, I believe I can saywith a high degree of certainty that as things change on the surface, racially, ethnically, socially, sexually, some of the deeper underpinnings of mans and womens existance upon this planet remain the same ie.,the search for purpose and meaning in our lives, the desire to love and be loved, the pursuit of happiness, joy, peace, etc. Ill probably catch flak for what Im about to say,but I really dont care any more and dont say cr*p like, oh you're so narrow minded, you're so judgmental, you're stupid and ignorant to believe that stuff, etc.ad iinfinitum. Truth be known we were created to be in a close and loving relationship with our creator and outside of that relationship we die in every sense of the word for Jesus is life and in him only is there salvation. Now, I realize we live in a pluralistic, relativistic, secular society, where to speak such truths and absolutes is considered rude, insensitive, even hate speech, so get to hating me, I really dont care, because Ill be with my maker soon.
Care to provide us evidence of this so-called "truth"? My niece believes Santa Claus is real...wait, I had the guy kidnapped, so I know he is too ^_^ Anyway she believes in Mother Goose tales and fairies so I guess she's qualified to sit on America's "science" committee. If they'll let a moron who believes Satan buried dinosaur bones, climate change isn't real, and evolution didn't happen on they'll let anyone on. There is so much CRAP that people believe yet it's obviously not true.
FACT: The Earth is over four billion years old.
FACT: Humans evolved from a long line of primates, and before that rats, and before that fish, etc.
FACT: People ALWAYS act on "God's" behalf, he never, ever speaks or act on his own. Funny how that happens.
MYTH: A couple of people were magically willed into existence.
If you're going to go with myths then India, the Far East and pre-Christian Europe have better more interesting ones.
Jesus v. Cthulhu No holds barred street fight
eye gouging, halo and tentacle pulling
who wins?
Chthulhu wins, he's too massive, people go insane in his presence, and knows powerful magic whereas Jesus was just some ordinary guy, assuming he even existed at all.
Now here's one: Superman vs. God. I'll go with Superman, he can beat anyone and anything.
Thats interesting stuff, but is it backed by any real data? Do chessplayers typically denigrate each other? I havent ever experienced this.
Do chessplayers denigrate each other? Dude, I can't tell you how many ego fights there can be related to being right about something in chess. It happens at all levels, though especially at above 2000 level otb (hell, even look at all the times where people like Naka say every time they lose to Carlsen it's because they blundered or he "got lucky," as I saw in an interview in the current issue of New in Chess). Even more so in blitz and bullet chess (just watch some high level ones on chess.com and look at the comments). Excuses to call people patzers or stupid are ubiquitous. Not to say that everyone is like this of course -- some people are quite the opposite.
In fact, that's the one thing I don't look forward to if I get to 2000 USCF and beyond. I'll probably encounter more jerks.
"And the kicker: on tests of these skills through the years, women show equal ability to men on the averages. The only reasons that we typically find men as the recognised "top" of the fields appears to be due the quantity difference. More population = more outliers."
Keep in mind though, exodu, that such data is only conclusive if it is representative of the population. That goes for men and women. The kind of data we would want is, say, 50 randomly selected men, and 50 randomly selected women (make them play their own gender to avoid any effects of stereotypes) and measure their quality of play. That said, that would only show whether the quality of play is different and not why it is different (if there is any difference at all).
As it seems to be now, we have data of males non representative of the general population of males (roughly speaking, only certain kinds of males play chess, not necessarily the average male, who may be more likely to play sports or something for example), as well as data of females non representative of the general population of females, since roughly speaking only certain kinds of females play chess. We of course can still speculate, but it's much harder to be conclusive.
You mean she's got balls; Yeah! give me my proclivities back.
You don't need to have physical balls to have metaphorical balls.

At the OTB clubs where I've hung out regularly, trash talk is part of the game. It's just friendly ribbing - nobody's really trying to hurt anyone else's feelings, but it's definitely there. For a particularly sensitive person, and women are more likely to be more sensitive, I could see it being a problem, and possibly causing them to not want to stick around.
Again, most of the guys who do this (myself included) are good guys who are just joking around, and would quit such jokes immediately if they thought someone was taking it personally. But as in any competitive activity, there's going to be some trash talk.
Truth: There's never been an example of phyletic evolution accompanied by a major morphological transition in species. The Cambrian explosion as reffered to in litetature show us the instant creation of life in situ, all at once, there are no fossils in the pre cambrian strata.
Truth #2 God has spoken and acted in various and sundry ways throughout history, especially through his son, Jesus.
Truth#3 God didnt " magically" create Adam and Eve, for that implies deception, rather he thoughtfully and purposely created them which implies omniscience and power.
I know its off-topic, but I have to defend einstein99 here. Why are you people attacking him for his beleifs?? If he post, you complain, if he doesn't post, you complain. There's only 9 million people here. There's 10 billion people NOT on this site, who beleive the same basic theosis of Roman Catholosism, and have for centuries. Oogie Boogie; your niece is how old?? She knows the difference between a belief, and an architypal image?? Life is SO much bigger than the individual. Death is NEVER what you expect. Beleive what you want, but don't without religious training, try to pick on Einstein.
