World Champs Time Controls
40-in-2 is for no increment.
The time control currently used starts with less time but adds a 30-second increment with each move played. The idea is to avoid desperate time scrambles, because players will never have less than 30 seconds per move (the increment that was added by the previous move).
Its 1 hr 40 mins for each player at the start. Even every move they make 30 secs increment is given, which means they clock increases by 30 seconds after every move.
Also there are other increments. This initial time is only for the first 40 moves. When 1 player makes these many moves then he gets another 50 minutes for upto move 60, and once a player reaches move 60, he gets another 15 minutes.
Can someone explain why the time control for match 2 today started off at 1:40 for each player? I thought it was 2 hours for the 1st 40 moves? And why did the time remaining appear to increase for each player after the 1st few moves?
