I actually prefer to look at the board from my oppenent's perspective. In my experience, it allows me to see flaws in their defense or my possible attacks more easily. However, when I am in a more defensive position, I look at the board from the default perspective. Usually, I play few enough games at once that I will look at the board from both perspectives while analyzing the game before making a move. This allows me to
1: get in my opponent's head and occasionally find out what they may be planning
2: avoid simple oversights
3: discover possible attacks and defenses more easily
So to answer you question, it is definitely a good idea. It will help you understand your current game a bit better to see it from both perspectives.
Would it be a good idea...?

Would it be a good idea to practice with the board flipped? Like if I were playing white but I started the game with the black pieces in front of me and then proceed to play the white pieces just backward? I think it would probably help to improve how i look at the board...
