Would prime Karpov have beaten Kasparov?

My n00b opinion is yes, but I can say with certainty that this kind of counterfactual discussion rarely facilitates anything good on these forums.

Good idea.

I think we all agree that 1975 Karpov would have beaten 1985 Gerry Kasparov but maybe not 1986 Kasparov. That's enough of this then.

But neither could have beaten 1973 Bobby Fischer!

Nobody knows. Fischer was too busy hiding. As soon as a better generation of chess players came in, he hid away to protect his pride. Can't blame him, I wouldn't have wanted to play Karpov either!

No way man, it's like that other guy said.  He was scared of the world, not scared of the "chess world".  GOAT!

I just realized you're trolling to get under my skin. No sane person would think that Fischer would have beaten Karpov. You trolls always fool on me. But I'm not going to give you anymore of my time. But give yourself a pat on the back, you got me!

Fischer is most celebrated player of all time...because of his brilliance and status as GOAT

He has no status as GOAT whatsoever.

Searching for Bobby Fischer...Pawn Sacrifice...you see any movies about Karpov?  see what I'm getting at here?

That Bobby Fischer is overrated. Yes we are all aware of that.

he's underrated, because American's don't even like chess.  Think if he was from a chess mad country like Russia or India!  Probably more famous than the president or soviet premier!

No America hypes up everything they possibly can. If Karpov was American, Tobey Maguire would have already portrayed him in like 5 movies.

Karpov 1

Karpov 2

Karpov 3

Karpov 4

Karpov 5

And please stop derailing the thread. There is plenty of places you can talk about Fischer. Why do Fischer fans feel like they need to derail every thread. This thread is about Karpov and Kasparov.

Just give it a rest man.

let me be quite frank...there is only one man that belongs in the same sentence with Fischer and that is Kasparov!  Karpov is not in the running for GOAT

@president_max you crazy kid. You're the man.

Karpov was at his peak in the early 90's, not 70's.
