A lot of people try to raise their kids to be geniuses, but the vast majority turn out not to be anyway.

Avatar of Eo____

That's why you should look for the right genes, so you don't have to train your children :)

Because they want to live their lives vicariously throw their children. Like the mom who never made anything out of her life, and now want her kids to accomplish what she couldn't.

It makes sense for people to want to have smart kids. Having smart kids has short term and long term benefits. Short term benefits: bragging rights, hopefully less trouble raising the children, etc. Long term benefits include higher likelihood that their kids won't end up unhappy, unemployed, underemployed or in prison. There is also, of course, a higher likelihood that their kids will be able to provide for them when they reach old age.

If you want your children to be geniuses throwing them is inadvisable.

And if you do choose to throw them, catching them is highly recommended!

Does anyone remember Brigette Bardot?

I'm in love with a philosophy professor at a local college. She would be very upset if I married a Polgar sister. My friend says that chess bores her. She fell asleep at my last tournament.

Marrying the polgar sisters for their genes is quite possibly the most oblivious thing i've ever heard from a chess player.

I really don't want to spoil why though - if you want to know - look up the efforts of laszlo polgar in perticular.

Why does this spoil anything? As far as I can tell the Polgar experiment didn't prove anything in favour of nurture over nature, as the Polgar sisters ended up at drastically different levels of chess ability despite the same training regiment.

If nurture is the real and deciding factor then why weren't all three of them world champions with almost identical ratings? And even if they WERE all the same rating and all world champion contenders it doesn't change the fact that they all have the same genes anyway so the data would still be completely inconclusive.

As far as I can tell all Laszlo Polgar managed to prove was that studying and training ,very intently, from a very early age will make you very strong in your chosen field.

The real question is would she marry you?!

Haha!  Good one!

Assuming the question asked, however: As she's already married, the question for me is a resounding NO.  And if she weren't married, the answer would still be no because I don't know her.

However, if what you're really asking is do I think she's attractive and smart, then YES.  And she seems to be a nice person, from what I can see in interviews and whatnot.

Loved the Bernard Shaw story; he was awesome.

Truthfully, Judit is so hot and brilliant . . . she could probably talk me into anything.

A little too old and a lot too married.

Like many great players, I suspect she wouldn't be very interesting to get to know.
