this is a positive trade, but no one seems to like doing it. share your thoughts.

I did it once, I lost. It definitely depends on the individuality of the game your playing, every circumstance his different.

Yes.  Not only do I gain a slight material advantage, but my opponent has usually given up two active pieces for one active piece.

You should NEVER do this trade without thinking about the final position.

I probably should have added "generally."  Most of the time, I will make the trade.

Depends on the position. Would you mind sharing one?

AussieMatey

Unless I do it at least once every game, I can't call it a masterpiece.

chessterchief

here's a position. in this case, black decided against the trade.

ChessSBM

In bullet yes.  In blitz and rapid sometimes.

no

CrypticPassage

It depends on the position

tomfinney123

just a casual knock about no clocks with a few mates in the library today , got a cracking game where i traded my queen for two rooks ,

time wasnt an issue mind you so there was no hectic house about stopping the queen sniping pawns whilst i took full advantage of the twin rooks ,

lfPatriotGames

I normally trade my queen for the opponents two rooks, but it depends on the opponent. Most of the time it seems to be a favorable trade.

YellowVenom

For beginners, trading off both rooks simultaneously almost always spells suicide. Sure, you get your opponent's queen off the board, but unless their position is very weak (passive/pinned rooks, for example), their rooks will cut you down without mercy.

no a queen is so much better

mpaetz

In an ending with only the mentioned pieces (plus pawns) left the rooks will be stronger. In a middle game where the queen can co-ordinate with other pieces to create mating threats the rooks will have greater difficulty.
