It would probably be easier if you asked your specific questions here instead of presenting a vague bid for assistance like you did here. Lots of verified, high ranked players regularly read these forums, if you just ask specific questions you'd probably get something of use to you.
Writing a Character who Plays Professional Chess

Right now I’m working on a script with several people and one of the main characters is supposed to be an International Grandmaster in chess. Chess really fascinates me but it’s still something that I’m a beginner at and as much as I admire people who can play well, I’m very certain that I’d make a lot of missteps in trying to write for him without having the advice of someone who understands chess much better than myself.
I would love to be able to portray his skills, and the game in general, as accurately as possible. It’s not the main focus of the story, but it is a very important part. I’d rather not gloss over, trivialize, or worse, write a professional chess player character who plays an amateurish game. I have quite a lot of questions, regarding how to write his strategy, his state of mind and how tournaments are set up and various other behind the scenes things that are just outside of my experience.
I know a player’s gameplay style is like a signature, and I want it to actually feel realistic if I can. I want to work hard to make a character that’s believable, and I know that no matter how many more books I read, they won’t be as valuable as talking to someone with years of personal experience.
I understand this is a lot to ask of someone, this is an unprofessional project and not very likely to make money, or anything like that, so I don’t have much to offer in terms of that. Just a chance to share some advice about chess to a person who is probably going to mess it up without help.
But in any case, thank you very much for your time, and if you have any advice, or can point me in the direction of someone who might be able to help me with answering questions and informing me, or a place that you think might help me be more accurate, then I’d welcome the advice.
