xkcd: Dominant Players
Many of those lines and inclusions/exclusions make little sense. Alekhine way above Botvinnik in 1946? Botvinnik better many years after retiring than in the middle of the 1940s? Bronstein and Aronian but no Anand? If Elo is used why wasn't Kramnik shared first in 1996, and why was Fischer given as much lower in 1992 than in 1972 when he continued at the same point Elo wise? How can Botvinnik have been so far above Tal in 1958-60 when Tal won everything those years? And how can Tal be placed so much higher five years later instead, when he was playing at a much lower level?
