no im not, and what about polydiatonic? In this thread we have a fair number of people who said yes, and people who said no. I also said no, but I was attacked for it. By attacked, I mean I was talked to as if I don't have a right to an opinion. Polydiatonic insulted the answer no, he/she called it foolish, and then called me a know it all for saying what I think. What do you want from me, just be called a know it all, told your wrong and not argue?  If polydiatonic's comments were so perfect, correct, and well said, maybe I wouldn't be acting like a "drama queen".

it was the way you said no, and what got me was when u said "aha!" and said chessnetworks' post ruled out the rest of ours

I never said,  chessnetworks' post ruled the rest of yours, go check, I really didn't. If that's what you assumed, I can't help that. I was told that no good player will continue a lost game. When chessnetwork said no, that refuted that arguement, because he/she is clearly a great player. So what do you think I just decided to freak out for no reason? It doesn't work like that. Maybe you should take a look at the way you said yes as well.

I mean if it is forced checkmate, then basically you already played it out. Resigning shows more respect for your opponent as you are assuming that your opponent knows what to do, and won't be silly and make a mistake on the way. Why do you think there are rarely any checkmated grandmaster games? Just because it isn't played out it doesn't mean it's not a checkmate.

Look at it this way, if it is an obvious 3 move checkmate why do you need to play it out?

If it's a very unique hard to find checkmate, then if your opponent resigns doesn't it show that he respects your skill enough to believe you would find it too? Because if he didn't think you would he's just going to try playing it out and defend from it if you don't play it out well.

Aha! the like highest rated player ever said no, he/she wouldn't resign. I think that defeats your  other comment, "gleefully agreeing with players rated 1200,...I should look far north of my rating". :p

"I THINK THAT DEFEATS YOUR OTHER COMMENTS

Someone supporting you does not give you the right to freak out

my mistake, but polydiatonic is still right, more than %85 of grand master games dont end in checkmate, and more than %75 of players above 1500 would resign if they saw imminent mate

he wouldnt resign because he plays blitz  and bullet games, and anyone can screw up. if he was playing REAL chess where you actually THINK im sure he would change his mind.

id sigh -_-, then depending on the time pressure and the slight chance he might not see the moves, i might play them out

we are talking about unstoppable mate, not when you're down in material. i love playing out comeback wins, but if its an obvious mating pattern, its time to resign.

If anything, this article goes against what you are saying.

I'm 99.999999 percent certain he'd resign in a long OTB game.
