think it's getting better ...L9 game: 3 .., Bb4 was strange :-)
Yes - I know what I have to do there. It often looses the initiative by moving knights and bishops too far. It looks like I'll have to improve the king safety as well (especially when playing you).
I love what you did with being able to change the look of the board & pieces.
Thank you - I'm glad you use it. Most of the screen shots always show the default board so I was a little worried people weren't aware of that feature. Does the playing strength suit you? on what level?
I've released yet another version (10.5). It should play a bit better but I guess time will tell. It's on the same web page.
Yet another on line chess program
I have just released version 10.6 - This fixes the problem where the program occasionally plays stupid moves. It's also better in end game situations now. Please give it a try when you have time.
First of all - impressive. It must be hard writing a chess program. Anyway, on the highest level It will play solid moves, even some tactics, but can make a hugh blunder for no reason - here's an example:
Thanks for highlighting this. I set up the same position on my computer and it played fine. It would be interesting to know if it tries to play the same move again if you undo that bad move. I've released the latest version (10.7) and hopefully it will do better. On the plus side it seemed to be having an equal game with you up until that point
Mike
Version 11.2 now has an opening book which means it plays brilliantly for a while and then goes back to normal. There's also new time controls where you get extra seconds for each move played. It can now also show valid moves.
Approx 1000 opening "lines" are stored but you managed to escape pretty quickly. I'll add more around that line of play but it's a tradeoff on the size of the applet - big opening book = long download time for web page. I suspect you'll be on the winning side against my program for some time but at least it gives me a target :)
Must admit it made some howlers during the game - I suspect I should hunt for bugs in my code again

As was my intention!
Enjoyed the program. It would be nice if you could see the taken pieces some where on the screen. Thanks
It does show the material score in pawns under the board but I agree it would be nice to see what's been taken by both sides. The only reason I haven't is "screen real estate" - I'm just getting a little worried of having too much on screen and confusing the user.
Thanks for the encouragement! Any ideas about it's current ELO (and at what level)? I know Prawn can easily beat it on any level but then he's 2200 ELO. I know it's never going to be brilliant but it's nice just to get an idea of where it stands.
If anyones interested then you can see how the computer is thinking by clicking the word Fun in the title - and it then goes a little matrix like as it displays it's scoring while it thinks.
If you have some more time then you should do more exact evaluation, like if you are up a rook and your it is going to take your rook next turn then it could say still "equal position".

My OTB ECF Rapidplay grade is 167, about 1986 FIDE.
I think that's a better yardstick than my correspondence rating.
Do i have eye problems or is black having no king in this above picture? And therefore the game ended in stalemate when i was totally winning, it might be a method of making sure that the computer is always winning
p.s. i'm not sure if the post shows the picture but the FEN is
8/8/1K6/6R1/1p5P/1P6/1P6/8
