I'm certain there are those around here who would rather you didn't use the word 'we' when it comes to talking about respect for me.Laughing

Thanks though.

IQ has nothing to do with Chess ! I`ve ever defeated in chess by a homeless man ( who earn his living by sell cigarette in the street ), & he must be failed in all kind of IQ test because he never go to school nor take any educational program which mean he can`t read ! Chess is simply a game of analyzing moves, I think.

& that 'IQ' stuff is a new standard system ( although not accepted YET by most of people ) created by modern educated peoples, the same way they create all modern educational title, like Bachelor or Master degree. All of those things actually the development of how create new "economy" or say how to earn money in education system while cooperate with other system.

This "economy" matter actually could be apply to the all kind of sport system include chess world. The reason why chess star not as popular as Footbal Star or Basketball star, is because their system have grow much, like the promotion, people acceptance & media coverage in football & basketball world.  People acceptance toward chess actually increase thanks to www, so chess enthusiast can interact with other chess player  simply by connect via net,but chess has not increase much in promotional & medias.

I wouldn't say IQ has nothing to do with chess, that is extreme. However, you could have a high chess ability and have a low IQ depending on which test you take. Let's say chess involves spatial intelligence and you take a mathematical-logical IQ test. You might score low on the IQ test. Although there is a slight correlation between spatial and mathematical-logical intelligence, the correlation is not definite.

OMG!!! Please, not another chess/IQ thread!!!

I solved #5 differently. Here's the question:

5. Complete the row of numbers:

3,5,8,13,22,??

The difference between the numbers are 2,3,5,9.  The differences between these numbers are generated by increasing the rate of increase: 2+0=2,2+1=3,3+2=5,5+4=9. Therefore, the next difference should be 9+5=14 and therefore the next number should 22+14 = 36.

Don't know if this made sense at all but I feel like 36 is an alternate answer to #5.

Well, considering the forum topic is compare your IQ to garry kasparov, I would imagine the inspiration for such a post is to compare every player's chess rating and their IQ's to Garry kasparov's equivalent chess rating and his IQ.

.....#5... if you didn't mean 21 instead of 22? If it was supposed to be 21, then the answer is 34, because each number in the sequence is the result of adding the two numbers before it... 3+5=8, 5+8=13 and 13+21=34...

I thought the questions were already child's play enough as it is...turning the last number from 21 to 22 would make it so that even a 3 y.o. can solve it.

It wouldn't be much of an "IQ" test question if it was 21.

i thought Berlin was the only non-captial and i didn't do 9 & 10 cuz i got bored...

hey... this test DOES accurately depict my chess game!

ps - ditto turtlegamer

ppss - ditto spike william.  i'm 144 and ~1000 standard rating, ~1100 when i focus.

i feel like i COULD get good at this game, but I'd have to work just as hard as anyone.  it's the "one of the best memories in the world" part that doesn't suprise me.  JUST like Magnus!!

Avatar of RecklessPat

love it.

everyone on the site is unhappy with their scores, the lowest being 130+..., and there's STILL an argument between IQ and chess correlation??

100 is average... hands up for anyone even close to that number??  bet you they're a facebook integrated user :D

how about making a new one and compare it against Anand or Carlsen! That would be interesting!

Avatar of Prudentia

I can't say I'm my IQ is as high as Kasparovs, but i'm certainly prudent enough to know not to go speaking out against Vladimir Putin :P  IQ means jack when you're in siberia :D

Avatar of ProfessorProfesesen

Maybe when you have a high IQ speaking out against Putin is the only intelligent thing to do...Undecided

Avatar of lebid

We need to speak out against Putin and keep him restained. His current activity in Eastern Ukraine is ghastly especially after his invasion of Crimea earlier in the year.Australian PM,Tony Abbot is working tirelessly to return all bodies to their loved ones.He is rightly accusing Putin of murder here and it is time USA took a stronger stand.

The answer to (3) given is incorrect, of course. Many of these are general knowledge questions and they bear no strong relationship with IQ levels. That isn't a legitimate IQ test.

  • 10. Complete the following number sequence:
     4,  6,  9, 13
     7, 10, 15, ??

    10. 22. The upper row numbers increment by 2, 3 and 4. The lower row by 3, 5 and 7.>>>

I cannot see why there is any necessary pattern involved that makes 22 the "right" answer. If someone believes they can justify this pattern depicted in the solution as relating to a "right" answer, I think I'd be pretty interested in the rationale they might use.

? Can you restate that? I don't understand "can have an infinite numbers of reasoned next number"

I think he is saying that even with a finate number of patterns and an infinite number of reasoned next numbers, there are only 2 items that come with rice at the local takeaway.

I think Einstein covered all this right after E=MC2.

You have got to be joking... " I`ve ever defeated in chess by a homeless man ( who earn his living by sell cigarette in the street ), & he must be failed in all kind of IQ test because he never go to school nor take any educational program"

Well, English is obviously not his first language, so you don't need to be a d*ck about it.
