I solved question no 5 in a different way using method of differences. 3,5,8,13,22, are the numbers. so difference between the consecutive numbers are 2,3,5,9. now take the diffrence again for these numbers, you will get 1,2,4,..so next difference should be 8 here hence first diffrences series should be 2,3,5,9,17. Therefore missing number in the question should be 39 as 39-22=17

Yes! I'm up to 8!

Ok, I didn't do very well the first time, but now that I've learned all the answers that means I'm smarter than Kasparov, right?

IQ is a ridiculous notion. That you can take the mental values of a man, and, assigning a convenient number to them, gauge them in comparison to those of others in a scale of absolute and objective value is a silly fantasy which, when attempted, results in nothing but a biased, faulty, and inherently flawed pseudoscience which thrives on the desire of those who possess mathematical and critical skill that is above the average man's.

The IQ test is notorious among those who know better than to succumb to intellectual insecurities, insecurities which parallel pitiful sexual insecurities, by flaunting a score produced from a slew of remarkably invariant questions which fail to consider a myriad of more important skills and qualities for being a meaningless and arrogant source of comfort for those who possess strong processing abilities pertinent to the test but fail to develop a perspective in life that reflects priorities and principles that supercede the primitive drive to subjugate others in pursuit of self validation.

In my opinion, life is like a chess game in respect to these ideas: that it matters not what is within one's mind or heart, that it matters not if you are extremely strong in respect to calculation, that it matters not if you are extremely strong in respect to experience, that the ultimate measure of success or failure is the moves, the decisions, we make. The intellect of the world could be crammed within the skull of one man, but if even for the simplest reason he could not translate such intellect to a meaningful thing, a decision or a word at least, he would be a failure. This, of course, is not to say that intellect doesn't help, it's to say that its not worth the attention it's getting.

If everyone agrees that something is overrated, then it's not actually overrated, it just means everyone likes the idea of being against the norm.

No, 90 and 93 is correct. It's explained in the second post.

I've actually read that Kasparov's IQ was something ridiculously high; like 170-ish.

170 is much much more believable than 135. I guess that all super GM are above 125. Kasparov? probably 160...

IQ is very useful but, yes you're right. It has been "misused".

I also thought this was the idea of the IQ...

I still did pretty well though :P

8. could be 361 only number with an even number of odd digits.

Iq test suck. Even for a real iq test taken by  someone qualified there are too many factors like education, understanding the language, concentation, how well someone deals with time pressure, that the test is an indication of inteligence at best.

IQ tests are great for those who want to be good at IQ tests, because they will surely succeed at them.

So Hermes is a messenger god. I thought its some kind of sex-related desease. That's why I had a correct answer there. Just lucky I guess.

Deranged

I got 8 right so my IQ is higher than Kasparov's!

The ones I got wrong were:

Rio De Janeiro - I thought it was non-capital cities so I picked Oslo without realising if Bombay was or was not one.

Optics - I thought of acoustic guitars as quiet so I picked a blindfold.

As for Question 5. 39 - I was thinking of adding the number before it, but I got confused with going from 13 to 22, so after ages of thought I thought that the number you were adding each time went up progressively from 2, 3, 5, 9 and that pattern went up by 1, 2, 4 so I assumed the next number would be 8 (since 1, 2, 4 and 8 are doubling each time), meaning that it would add 17 the next time and 22 + 17 = 39. I still got the answer right though :)

I was going to say bombay as answer but thought it might have been the capital of india in the past, considering its size, so i went for rio de janeiro, because it seemed so far from all of the others. wikipedia told me later that bombay is now mumbai, is the largest city in india, and has never been capital of india, so bombay could have been chosen for either your reason, or for the fact that it is the only one that no longer is the name given in the quiz. i didn't get the acoustics question though, so I got 9/10, IQ 151.

Hmmm. Too many people on here seem to think that Rio de Janeiro is the capital of Brazil.

i_r_n00b

10/10

however, i thought the Rio de Janeiro was a river or something....im such an idiot.

i dont think answers are as important as the reasoning process, and i clearly failed at that.
