"The harder I work on my chess, the luckier I get"
Don't say things like that without accrediting the origional authors. The origionator of that phrase I belive is Samuel Goldwyn, although its often attributed to Gary Player. Interestingly enough, Benjiman Franklin once said "Diligence is the mother of good luck", which really means the same thing.
Goldwyn said that?
Kindly prove it, and I'll delete my post accordingly.
No sense in deleting it. I'm not quite sure how to prove it, but simply googling "The harder I work, the luckier i get" will turn up tens of thousands of results. It's an old and well known saying.

"The square of the opposite colored bishop belongs behind the isolated pawn ... and why mechanically following guidelines only get you so far in chess"

King without a castle is only a step from defeat.
A universe......whole universe in those sixty-four squares!

chess is the most wonderful waste of time that the human race has ever designed. its like a religion. it was invented a long time ago by people we dont really know anything about, we worship it, it has ritualistic aspects- especially OTB- we follow the rules without question.we devote ourselves to it (some more than others). there a scholars who study and interpret it then tell us what we should believe about it.both have mythological figures that lead by example that we identify with but revere simultaneously. and both can leave us with more questions than answers.
i say "what in the world is going on here" alot so thats my quote
