I agree with whats been said so far.. kingscrusher, greencastleblock, and chessnetwork are some great ones, whereas jrobi doesnt know what hes doing.

a little known one is chessteacherjoe. about 2000 rated, his vids have tons more personality than any other. the guy is crazy, and jokes the whole time. making fun of the colle system has to be one of the best.. but he still has some good insight to class players

Maybe his most recent stuff is better.  For sure his first videos were less than instructive (I felt worse after watching them)He's not very knowledgeable himself, and it shows through not only his off hand comments, but his reliance on engine analysis (he gives a line and doesn't know what to say about it) and his many videos on openings where all he has to do is copy moves from a book/database.  Even so, his opening videos have errors, some as basic as getting the name of the opening wrong.

He sounds like a great guy and I have nothing against him personally, but his instruction is very poor -- of course that should come as no surprise, he's merely vlogging his chess journey not running a chess course, and whose chess journey isn't filled with unspeakable errors Smile  Unlike most though, jrobi seems compelled to share such errors with the world Laughing

May I suggest my chess channel?

I have more than 300 lectures on many aspects. I would say I am not much worse than Kingcrusher; and my parents are Grandmasters. My ratings are ECF slowplay 185, ECF rapidplay 175. My FIDE is low at the moment though, out of sync with my ECF because I don't play ELO-rated tournaments.

Thanks. Good luck with your chess!

I have to agree with orange on the notion that jrobi isn't expressing knowledge on some of the openings...Like in one video, for instance, he didn't know the name of the opening when it was the Caro-Kann defense. However, instruction doesn't seem to be the main function of his videos. Posting videos is his way of synthesizing all of his analysis; it's fast for the experienced players so they could quickly correct is line of thinking. I would probably recommend some of the other people mentioned in this thread for newer players, but for intermediate players such as myself, I would recommend at least taking a look at if you haven't already. If for nothing else, it's a good way of inspiring yourself so you don't plateau early on and quit. I myself quit playing for a while because I plateued at around 1540's, but when I started watching his videos, he inspired because he continued getting better.

For youtube, NM ChessNetwork is the best. Period.

When I was at square one, I listened to jrobi. I load his opening video lectures into my iPod and watch them on the monitor as I exercise, memorizing opening lines.

What is it about the British accent that makes people sound more authoritative and smarter?  I listen to kingscrusher because he sounds intelligent.

I'm surprised no one has mentioned Kevin from the chesswebsite.com. He's good.
