What is the rule for interchanging your Rook with the King?

And I was playing against the PC and I moved my Queen next to the opponents King diagonally to put them in check but they just took me. Why is this so?

Cheers

He seems to be inquiring as to what the rules are for castling, as well as unaware that the King can capture, that's my best guess anyways.

I'm sure many people like myself glanced into this thread, all eager to discover what the two questions were, and upon finding that answering them requires going to the trouble of typing out the castling rules and explaining that the King can capture, well, decided that such basics couldn't warrant our typing time and promptly exited.

Toneboy, please make use of the wondrous search bar the benevolent chess.com staff have bestowed upon us. It's the white bar to the upper right. Or, if you click the "articles" link on the "read" menu you can find beginner guides.

"Castling" might be a pertinent term to search.

Oh, and the King can capture pieces. Even Queens. Especially Queens. He's just that damn handsome.

Rael,

Excuse me for prying into the seedy underbelly of your private "chess-life", I was just wondering if you had a picture of yourself, taped to your king?

Would you believe that I just went to the effort of trying to cobble one together just for you, Ray, and that upon beholding my ridiculous visage atop a chess piece in my microsoft paint program I had something of an existential crisis?

Gee I'm sorry i wasted your time, but thanks for being so nice about it.

I havent played chess for for about 8 years (since i was 10) and apparently I remembered a rule about being in check incorrectly (of couse i know a king can take pieces), but i wont bother anyone next time. Because the Rules are SO accessable to find what you need to know, especially when you dont know the terms for them.

No, no, sorry, I didn't want to give the impression that you shouldn't be asking questions. That's what the community is here for.

What is the question you have about the Queen beside the king thing? It's just that your inital post is a little vague.

/sorry if I was glib

Avatar of zlhflans

Yea, glib is my forte` ok!

The queen was probably just not protected. An early mistake, I doubt you'll do it twice. Ask, ask, ask.

I cant compete with pictures and tom cruise.

these may be helpful, as other rules auch as en passant are also often not understood by beginners.  Nothing like pictures.

To fight Tom Cruise you'll need one of these...
