Odd as it may seem, your opponent actually can checkmate you through a series of legal moves. It's helpmate of course, but it still makes it a win on time rather than a draw by insufficient material.
If your king is on a8, black king on b6, you pawn underpromoted to a knight on b8, and the black knight on c7, then it is mate.
I agree with the above. The player with the fallen flag can only claim the draw if his opponent cannot checkmate his king through any series of legal moves = It doesn't matter how ridiculous the moves and promotions may be so long as they are legal. I'm afraid big E in this case your flag had fallen but your opponent does have a series of legal (but ridiculous) moves by which he can check mate your King. The arbiter has rejected your claim - However....if your flag has yet to fall and you have less then two minutes on your clock, if the only way your opponent can win is via a "helpmate" set of moves like above (or your opponent is making no attempt to win but just waiting for an insufficient material timeout by his opponent), then you may stop the clocks, call the arbiter and claim the draw. If the arbiter agrees with you then they should award the draw! So in summary, if you had made the same point you have made in this thread to the arbiter a couple of minutes before timing out, then you would have drawn the game
Ok, thanks. :) I'll try to get to hit the draw offer when I get into that situation again. I was aware that a possible checkmate was there via helpmate, but I thought the server was going to record it as a draw so I didn't worry so much about hitting the draw button. I did try to hit the draw button but I think I was too slow because we played out those last moves very quickly. lol :)
If I were your opponent, I would run my knight around aimlessly to run the clocks.
i got a draw in blitz but i was up a pawn and would have promoted it if the other person didnt run out of time
Isn't this a draw? I was white and it says I lost on time. My opponent only has a knight and king left.
