Abandonment feature needs improvement!

Hi all, the feature that results in a loss if you are trying to figure out what to do and spend too much time is very unfair and can be improved. First of all, I didn’t “abandon” a game just because I want to use some time to figure out if I can survive a position. Second of all there was zero warning of my impending “abandonment” and all of a sudden I lost the game with over a minute left on my clock in a 3+2 game. I understand the need to discourage a troll from walking away while connecting to a game - but why make the actual chess players suffer a loss while in the middle of figuring out tactics. There should be a “request time” feature to let players figure out if they are dead on not. What’s the point of a clock if it’s not a real clock? If players abuse the feature of requesting time they should be banned. This feature should only be there if players legitimately need time to figure out a tactical sequence or need time to determine if resignation is in order. I can’t say how many times it I has happened where I made a mistake and my opponent plays a good repose, and I’m knee deep in my mind figuring out the tactics and trying to figure out if I can play on, when all of a sudden I lose with over a minute left on my clock (when a minute is an eternity especially with bonus time when if I figure out a trick I might have won). The abandonment feature sucks and needs improvement to not result I. Losses due to just using time allotted to me with my clock.

Well… there r players who will do what u do without good reason. I don’t think there’s a way to improve things 🤔

It’s very simple. After certain thresholds just have a request time button so the player can keep thinking and the game goes on. If they ask for more time clearly they are still playing the game - unless you are a troll but if the request time feature is abused then just ban them. What I’m saying is by imposing this “abandonment” feature it results in losses that may not have been if the position is complex. I can spend a while on one single move than move very quickly on the next 15 if I spent time trying to understand the position and trying to survive. This feature sucks and I’ve lost games by “abandonment” when I never abandoned anything at all.

Hm. Interesting idea. Maybe they could do a test of some sort!
