Android App Bot Challenge Modes Missing

On the Android app my bot challenge settings have been replaced by an options selector, and no longer displays the challenge settings. Clicking on the options button only minimizes the settings.

This is very strange because when I am logged out the challenge settings are present. I'm not sure why. Chess.com support seems to be mute even though I've reached out to talk to them and "Mia" took my chat, but appears to never reply to chats. Any help would be appreciated.

The options button is here, but if I click the down arrow it simply minimizes the options. I cannot change the challenge settings for any bots. I've tried several ways.

I have also cleared my cache, reset the app, signed in and out, and rebooted my phone. None of these steps fixed the issue.

I am running version 4.9.24-googleplay

Options only, but not challenge.

When I'm not logged in here are the settings that are available to me for bot matches.

Not logged in challenge settings

Also, unrelated to the issue with Android, but is Chess.com support extremely slow to reply to support requests, or is it just me? I am a paying member.

That's a planned change in how the bots work. The change is only out to a subset of members currently,.

Thanks for the reply Martin_Stahl. My account previously had the bot challenge settings, and when I'm signed out and using a guest account these settings are available to my account.

This seems more like a bug than something they are rolling out to select accounts.

If it was previously available to me then why would they remove it? If it is available to a free guest account then why can't I have this feature as a premium member?
It seems a bit strange to me.

The selection for the feature change is based on the account, not device. Sometimes guest accounts (not signed in) also get features like that in advance, not allow do.

It's not a bug. It's a change in how bots are going to work moving forward. Though it's possible some additional changes will happen before rolling out to everyone.

So if it's based on the account then why did I previously have it, and now it has been removed? Has my premium account been demoted for some reason? Do you have a chess.com official post explaining this feature change that I can reference myself?

You had the old option until the new version started rolling out and your account is included to have the new feature..

I appreciate your comment Martin_Stahl, but do you have a source I can reference for this information? How can I validate that this is the expected behavior and not a bug?
Why would chess.com purposely remove a bot setting that is available even now to the guest account on my phone, and is also available on the website via the browser?

New features, when they're slowly rolling out, don't have an announcement anywhere public.

So, in the new update, you can still use hints and take backs, and the crown level will depend on how much assistance is used. Some of the other assistance features have been removed.

I just want to make sure I'm understanding the situation correctly. The bot challenge modes are being slowly being removed from Chess.com accounts without any kind of notice to the community or to the account holders. Meanwhile the same challenge modes will continue to work for the free guest accounts. Effectively a free account has more features in some ways than a paid subscription? This makes no sense to me, but please verify that I am understanding this correctly.

The updated challenge settings are out to a subset of accounts. The site will likely roll out the update to everyone, in the near future, but there could be some changes based on feedback. At some point, everyone will have the updated interface including members that are logged out

When the full rollout happens, there likely will be an article about the chai or it will receive a section in the monthly updates article.

As a Platinum member how can I opt out of this unannounced change being applied to my account without my consent? Chess.com support and help seems mute to all requests and inquiries. Why didn’t Chess.com inform users of this change? Don’t you agree that notifying your user base of a change of this type would be the best course of action?
I mostly play the bots on the app. If I am to believe that the guest account has a better bot gaming experience with richer settings than the platinum account then it makes sense for me to cancel my membership and use the guest account.

You could contact Support directly using the option in the menu but I don't think there's generally a way to get removed from the update.

Even if there is the possibility of being removed, the overall change is going to be rolled out to everyone at some point. How long depends on feedback as more members begin getting it.

The site does not normally give advance notice of any updates to the site. The primary exception is those things that go through the Beta programs, for web, and even then, many changes are implemented without notifications. There's also a Beta Android program, but this particular change wasn't part of that Beta program.

So as I understand it I won't be able to restore the original bot challenge options, and Chess.com support, and their bug reporting system won't reply to me. Additionally I am unable to receive any resolution to my problem, and there is no path forward.
Given my situation, and your feedback I decided to cancel my membership. Chess.com has failed to keep me informed as a user, and has ignored me as a paid subscriber. They simply don't deserve the money I would be spending on this site. I am very happy I didn't purchase the yearly subscription. I don't usually leave reviews on apps, but I'll be sure to leave my feedback about this experience on the Google Playstore.
