When the latest app update was released, did you install it over the one on your device ? or did you close the app, completely un-install, then install the new app ?
Can you go into settings /manage applications / chess.com
clear data and force stop, then un--install and go back onto the market place and re-install the app.

I updated through the Market. Reinstalling doesn't help though.

Which model and version droid are you using?
can you describe exactly what you see when you try to open the app please?
I am using an Archos 5 running Android 1.6.
When I open it nothing happens because it goes straight to FC. It does swtich to portrait view though to try and load the menu.
I updated and now I can't open on my iPhone ... ? Am I going to have to wait for an update or is there anything I can do to fix?

What version is the iPhone?
If its an older version, there is a fix just added onto iTunes to fix that. If its a newer version, we're already working on a fix for it.

I installed the android app on my adroid tablet. I downloaded the apk from a direct link from chess.com because I can't use the android market to install things on my device (nook color, modded to CyanogenMod7). This app was working nicely for a few days. Today I try to run it and a msg. comes up..."update Check: An update is available! Please update". I press OK (only choice), then another msg. comes ups that says "Sorry; The application ChessCom (process com.chess) has stopped unexpectectedly. Please try again." I would like to download the new version of the app here at chess.com, but it seems the version is the same (April) as the one I downloaded before. If there is a new version, I need to download the newer one when it becomes available at chess.com (not through the Android Market).
Perhaps another way is to make this application available on Amazon Apps - I can't get apps there.

Thanks kohai; I have joined, I have downloaded, installed, now I am enjoying chess.com on my modded Android device again. 
I stupidly updated this app and now it force closes before it can open. I can't even play chess at all now!
Is there any way to install an old apk to get it working again?
