Another hosted virus on chess.com

One of your graphic ads is for "The PC Performer".

This program is fairly well-known malicious software which has rootkit and browser-hijack capabilities, and also acts as a mild (ie: social engineering) type of ransom-ware by spamming the user with false positives of registry errors.

Come on, guys... it took me less than two minutes in Google to characterize this program as malware. Surely you must check your sponsors?

Here is a link to a typical report on it:

Thanks for reporting this. If you see the ad again will you take a screenshot of it and copy the URL where you see it and send it to me or to Help & Support please? We will look into removing it if it is malware!

One of the reasons why I got premium, to stop those annoying ads, especially in the middle of a game and you suddenly lag out of nowhere because of stupid ads.

blueemu

... and another one: SpeedAnalysis, which is by the same company and has the same root-kit and browser-hijack capabilities.

The ad looks like this:

lol haven't you guys realized that chess.com did that to encourage people to get premium? >.<

One of the reasons why I got adblock plus, to stop those annoying ads, especially in the middle of a game and you suddenly lag out of nowhere because of stupid ads.

I will try to get and post the link next time I see it (for both items).

Chess.com is just trying to make money off of those ads because the company probably pays them alot to get your computer hacked, then they steal your info. Chess.com doesn't really care about your safety, it just cares about the money.

Basically chess.com tries to spam PUP(potential unwanted program) at you until you get mad and then buy premium

Don't try to deny it because everyone knows about PUP like Delta Safe Search and stuff its so obvious, if chess.com staff is so smart then how could they not detect that, like you have to sign stuff and do paperwork to allow someone to advertise bla bla bla.

And yeah I always get these random search engines like Delta Safe Search and Mysearchdial and other stuff that I've googled and found out that they are viruses.

Everybody knows this stuff is malware it spams you with messages and hijacks your browser and eventually your computer and is insanely annoying to remove because it is a PUP, also probably a keylogger.

Talonflame_Fan

Be careful everybody, keyloggers log the keys that you type, so they can steal all your bank account numbers, your email password, and other important information. Sometimes you don't even know if you downloaded one, because they don't tell you. The only way to avoid keyloggers is to use the virtual keyboard on the screen, but that's very slow and ineffective. Also, some of the more tech-advanced keyloggers can take pictures of your screen, so even the virtual keyboard doesn't work.

Yeah... the important part is in the fifth line down:

adurl=http:\\www.thepcperformer.com (don't click this, by the way)

I didn't get infected, of course. But computer noobs are very vulnerable to this sort of thing.

This is a Trojan horse, aka a program that when opening a zip file or just a regular folder or something, will open up several viruses and keyloggers that quickly take over your computer. Instead of just having to uninstall the original Trojan horse, you will have to remove all the new viruses, which get harder and harder to uninstall, eventually becoming impossible. This also hijacks your browser with a toolbar, search engine, and is hard to remove. obvious malware...

Yep, I am one too. I know very little about computers, just the basic "don't click on random links that don't seem safe", and some basic internet skills.

Sossitch

I clicked it by mistake but Norton Antivirus caught it immediately, had to reboot the computer but I haven't had any issues since.

Oh yeah BTW I found that ad on my homepage 3 times already. Hm, kind of trying to target people right chess.com, putting an ad like that on the homepage...
