I'm new here, and this is my first post!
I like that idea, even if it was something silly like new backgrounds and stuff. The idea of working towards something really adds fun to anything.

For now the member points are just to show how active each member is in the Chess.com community and the points are not redeemable for anything but we will take note of your suggestions and maybe in the future we can develop something fun for this. Thanks for the feedback and suggestions, we appreciate it!
a trophy will be given?more discount?or become VIP chess.com?

Maybe it was only for first 50 or 100 which first got 1000 points. 
There is no longer a tee-shirt reward.. I think it was for the first 5 or something.
You ought to worry though, hidden in the fine print is this clause - for every 1000 member points you get on chess.com it adds a year to the time before you get to have a girlfriend again.

LOL! I'm only about a quarter of the way to 1000, if I stop posting/playing now, will I only have to wait 3 months? Or is it already too late?

Do you think girls check out chess.com to make sure guys their interested in, are'nt members?

I think points should unlock stuff. This will make people want to become more active. And if someone posts just for the points and it's not a constructive post/something enjoyable to read then we could report them so as to monitor people from making stupid posts for points.

I hope they don't give any reward for points. If they did I suspect the general quality of forum posts would deteriorate markedly. Plus people would start even more spammy chain threads.

I agree.
Creating unlockables with member points encourages spam messages, blogs, articles, and so would be an awful addition to the site.
but on the other side it would also encourage people to help others and such, maybe awarding points to the most helpfull blogs and articles or something and award that would be much better
It's a little too late to change the points system, IMO. But, whatever Erik and Co. feel is best!
it could be addictional, seeming if they really want awards and no spammning that would be a solution, else there will just be useless posts for these awards

How about being reward by unlocking a feature on chess.com when you reach a certain amount of points. Maybe a new board or able to use a chess.com library where you can watch millions of World Campions games played by GM games, unlocking a feature for your theme like downloading you pic to use for your background. Able to obtain Instant messages. Anything will do!!
