Blatant time wasting

I am getting sick and tired of time wasters on this site.  Twice already my rating has not improved due to less than 4 moves being played due to no fault of my own, and people are accepting challenges that I issue, but then do not make a move for minutes and minutes on end, whether they are playing as white or black.  There needs to be more checks and balances in place to combat blatant and deliberate time wasting.  I have nothing against the minimum 1 day per move, but I do not agree that one's rating shouldn't change due to this less than 4 moves rule...

Maybe you're another timewaster...

Yes, this happens to all of us. I have had many games where the opponent lost on time before 4 moves. You should probably go to "My Home" then "Online Chess" and then "players" and look for a player who has completed many games and challenge them. This way you know your opponent is reliable.

make sure you check out someone's profile first before you play them! that will help you make sure they have good stats (like time per move, # of moves per game, etc.). i personally haven't had any aborts, but maybe i'm just lucky... sorry to hear that!

Cheers to both; many thanks.  Checking player's stats seems a good idea...Smile

I played someone who kept hassling me to move as soon as he'd moved even though i'd stated 7 days per move. We made about 4-5 moves in one evening, then i logged out for the night. I never heard from him again and he lost on time. I don't think he fully understood what turn based chess meant.

And how are basic members supposed to do that? No, I'm really not being sarcastic.

Well there are certainly some odd people around. Before Easter I player against an Iranian, just a simple average game. After maybe 20 turns he requested me to move faster from now on - funny, as he used to move three times slower than me. I told him so and he just kept playing as slow as before, with no further response.

One week later he requested an immediate draw and rematch, with much pleading - while the game was obviously lost for him. That surely was the strangest opponent around a rating of 2000 that I met =)

@ kingfisher

Why should it be a problem for basic members ? You can see the time outs, the average time / move and their previous matches. That's enough material to consider someone a good opponent or not.

i HAVE A PROBLEM WITH THE GAME EDITORS ON LIFE GAMES WHERE HE DELIBERATELY IGNORES THE  3 MINUTE  TIMEOUT RULE AND ALLOW PLAYERS UP TO 10 MINUTES.

WHAT A MESS.
