I only play against the computer. I am a beginner. After a bit, it seems to vary, the board freezes and will not reboot unless I close the whole broweser. Any suggestions?

Hi Nomad15

Sorry you are experiencing this problem.

I would just like to ask a few question to help identify the problem and hopefully be able to provide a solution.

Are you reffering to live chess or online chess?

1) What device are you using? (PC, tablet, smartphone)

2)What Operating System? (Windows 7, Mac, Android, Iphone)

3) What browser are you using (internet explorer, firefox, chrome, safari)

The same thing happens to me, especaily when I am winning.

FWIW, I play chess against computer, I have a macbook, tried safarai, chrome, and firefox. Game freezes about once every 3-4 games.

upsign have you tried to clear your browsers cache and cookies regularly?

Also use firefox or chrome rather than safari for the best experience:)

Winning ? - havn't had that problem yet.

But playing the computer often freezes with me as well & I'm doing all the right things - using Chrome & clearing my cache etc regularly. Once I ended up with a spare piece on the board that I couldn't move !
No trouble using Tactics Trainer though.

Here's my spec:-
Samsung laptop PC
Windows 7 OS
Google Chrome.

Guys is this in relation to online chess or live chess?

I'm persuming live chess, and i would suggest ensuring that you uninstall all unecessary addons with your browser, restart it, clear cache and try again.

I think we're having a small communication problem Hydra - I'm talking about the facility in the Play section to play against the Chess.com computer itself where it says 'Vs Computer'.  That's where some of us are having trouble getting through an entire game.
Nothing to do with either Live or Online Chess !

How about trying it yourself ?  But don't expect to get to the end of games very often - out of four games of mine, I think three failed. The whole thing will suddenly freeze & doesn't come back.

Hope that clears up the confusion.

Ah thank you stephen,

Yes, i know what your saying, unfortunately i do not know of a solution to that , other than ensure your version of java is the latest, and if that fails to work, then send a ticket to support here:

Sorry i cant be of more help on this topic, all the best

Thanks for the input. It helps to know I am not the only one it is happening to.

@Hydra, I use a Mac, Chrome or Firefox and my cookies/cache empty everytime I close the browser. Right now playing against the computer is frozen in another window I have open. I am on the 18th play and it says the computer is thinking.I will try updating Java- but just yesterday I updated all software and Java was not suggested.

Thanks again- I am a very novice player and so far I am completely in love!

I have everything I can set to update automatically but I'll keep an eye out for Java updates since they seem critical for this site.

Thanks for your feedback Hydra.
