Bug: Boards not appearing?!

Dear chess.com staff,

In my latest blog entry I use two playable boards. They're not appearing reliably--they appear maybe 66% of the time for me. Kohai reported a similar experience while paul211 and wiseachoo reported they never appear. Probably more are experiencing this same issue. I'm open to making minor changes to the PGN if you feel that would help.

I'm using Firefox 3.0.1 on Windows XP Pro SP3 over a broadband connection with session cookies and javascript enabled.

I use Firefox (Vista Home) and noticed that, when I read your recent blog. I used the javascript refresh method provided therein and it worked around the issue. Keep up the great writings and I hope there's a resolution to be had.

If it helps, i'm using 7Mb broadband, Firefox 3, XP Pro, cookies and javascript enabled, networked computers so no direct firewall on the pc i'm using.

erik

i fixed this for you.

problem? you put the diagrams into TABLES which messed them up. you should be able to do it all without tables. the diagrams/boards are very sensitive javascript objects, and tables are gross :)

great blog post by the way!

Wow, thanks Erik for the quick fix! I will avoid the tables next time. :)

I have been having several problems in Firefox, but they do not occur in Safari (at least I'm not reduced to using Explorer):

My playing boards lack pawns

I cannot submit Endless Quiz questions

I'm having intermittent problems in firefox too.  I use safari as a workaround, but it's not the best option!

I'm using FF3 on MS XP SP3, with a few extensions, but I've disabled most of them (and the ones I still have active are ones I've been using since FF2).

The problems were, at first, not being able to see some puzzles in the forums, but as of today it will not load any of my current games (the pieces do not appear on the board) - however, I can see the preview images when I hover each game in the list on "My Home" or "Online Chess".

Onosson, I've had similar, occaisional, problems. Typically, a hard refresh (CTRL + R) fixes them. If that doesn't work, then clearing out cache/cookies does. Give those a try.

Baseballfan, thanks for the advice - clearing the cache did the trick (I left the cookies alone).  I should have thought of that myself!
