I've had that problem on Android. If it makes you feel any better, it's caused by a bad connection--it has nothing to do with the app. That's why I would recommend refraining from playing rated live chess on mobile devices.

Is that really true? I haven't heard of people complaining about problems like that with other websites' chess apps.

Well, I've only observed the problem when my connection was spotty or I was moving in a car, bus, etc. Maybe other chess apps just have more tolerance for small irregularities in the connection.
