Kohai, could you possibly post the site's instructions for how we're supposed to post videos here, because the only guidance I've ever found was from an ordinary member.

Here is the link to chess.com "welcome video":

Are staff able to embed that here to show us how it is now done?

Videos still working in news & blogs but not elswhere on the site so something must have happened.

Go to:

http://www.chess.com/blog/post

Enter a character with a few blank lines followed by another character.

do you mean the title bar?

Click on the empty line between the characters.

Click on the youtube editing button at the top of the Body box.

Paste the embed code in the dialog box:

Click OK.

i got through till here. how do i 'select and copy' the video?

For those of you trying, the work around seems to only work with chrome.  When I (and another guy) tried with firefox it just pasted a blank section where the video should be.

When you get the blank space ,right click reload, and it should show the vid.

... I guess I'll try one more time.  I really don't think it works...

Nope, doesn't work with firefox.

Yes, I know how to copy and paste.  Here's with Chrome:

Seems to be the way copy and paste works.  In firefox when I select all -> copy the text is selected (by the way, completely unnecessary to add text before and after) but the video isn't selected.

In Chrome the whole blog post is selected (there is a big blue box including the video).

But seriously, anyone taking bets on how long it takes chess.com to fix this one?  I only ask because I know of one quite serious bug that hasn't been sorted out after four years!

As i said before on this thread - I spoke with the programmers, they have said nothing was added when the utube links broke.

One of the staff tested it on chrome and said it did work.

It could be caused by a browser update or utube making changes to their links, but from what I'm told, the team haven't made any changes on here

Kids do a better job at programming ... sack the older programmers :)

has the thread 'Test' been taken out?

Kohai,: See it doesn't work!!! Please don't tell us it does.

Please don't accuse me of lying.. there was no need for that and I do find it insulting :(

I did speak with the programmers, I was told they hadn't changed anything. One of the support team tried the youtube links via chrome and said it did work for him then (that was adding to homepage).

Because one feature on here doesn't work, there is no need for anyone in this thread or any other to become insulting and aggressive toward the site staff.

One of the suggestions was this :

1. Grab the embed code for which ever video you want to display from Youtube. There is a link for this underneath the video on Youtube. Copy it and paste it in your html editor box on whichever CMS you are using. Or if you are still making webpages with a html auditor, just copy and paste like you have always been doing.

Here is an example of ebed code:

[embed]<iframe width="896" height="510" src="http://www.youtube.com/embed/iZ9WP9aiflY?feature=player_embedded&rel=0" frameborder="0" allowfullscreen></iframe>[embed]

2. You will find all embed codes to be of a non-secured nature (http protocol) All you have to do once you paste your embed code into your html author tool of choice as mentioned in #1, is type in a small "s" (no quotes). Save and publish. Now look at your page. The video displays.
