Can't switch over to v2 anymore!

I didn't read many of the posts, but those posts I did read said stuff like RIP Chess.com V2 or something like that.

I am still in version 2 though

If you are on the app or on a mobile device, than idk how it's different. If you are on PC, you go to the menu on the bottom left, and click settings. Than, an Old Site button should appear on the same menu. Click that, and click Switch to V2, and you should know what to do from there

FYI its not a small band.  If it truly was, he would have done away with V2 a long time ago.

It's simply not true. We have millions of people happily using V3. We have fewer than 1,000 using V2 - we have detailed logs and know this. I have engaged with everyone who has legitimate comments and concerns. At this point, @GeneralChang cannot face the facts, and is instead insisting on conspiratorial narratives. V2 survives because I care, and because I feel a sense of responsibility to each and every user. We are currently in the midst of rolling out a new Navigation bar and javascript code which is faster and help the slow page loads for people who are using older machines. I have a very old Windows laptop that I use as my "empathy" machine. I admit that some of V3 is too slow for it. And that, alone, is what keeps V2 alive. I am no longer able to help people who just "don't like" V3, think it's confusing, or prefer the older look of V2. We have millions of happy customers on V3. All metrics (users, revenue, activity) are up and to the right. But again, I have sympathy for people using machines that don't process V3 as well.

Anyway, GeneralChang and others will claim this isn't true. And there isn't anything I can to do prevent people from making things up. Some people use conspiracies or denial to try to show they are right. What can I do. When I shut off V2 later this year, and V3 continues to operate successfully, then there will be no more room for the fictional version of this story. Until then, a handful of people will keep trying to subvert reality. And life goes on.

The ones complaining about V3 will find something else to "champion" when V2 goes away.

So eric, why is V2 still around?  You just said under 1000 is using it.  If what your saying is true, pull the plug on V2.

Can V3 be programmed to lock a thread if no one post in it after 6 months.?  Obviously, if requested by the OP, it could be RE-opened.

I still have a trace of V2 in a message that told me that one of my friends has upgraded their premium account before V3 was a thing.

Thanks.  Chess.com fixed the problem a while back and I am able to use the method I was using before the problem existed.

I disagree with it not being a small band. 1000 members / members is .004%. If you had $95,398.84 and lost $1, what would you call it?

If that were true, why didnt V2 get shut down a year ago?

Here is the news article on the Chess V2 group that erik has posted:

I know this is very sad news for many of you in this group. Some of you strongly prefer V2, and I respect that. Some of you feel confused and frustrated by V3, and I'm sorry. Unfortunately, we now need to move on.

V2 is based on an aging technology which is no longer sustainable, and is holding us back from also improving and fixing things on V3. There is a deeper technical reason that I don't fully understand, but it has to do with MySQL versions, PHP versions, etc. But that doesn't really matter to you, because you love V2. You've been with it for a long, long time. And I'm grateful. I don't take it lightly that many of you are attached to V2. I understand it. I also feel upset sometimes when things change. It's happened to me with my phone operating system and some sites I visit. It can be very frustrating.

And I won't say we have handled this the best possible way, though we tried our best. I've learned a lot from this experience - how to change more incrementally, how to message about it, etc. Running a company with millions of passionate customers is tough! So many people to try and please. And with that, inevitably some disappointment. Which is something I just don't handle well. So, I'm sorry. I truly am.

I have been delaying this as much as possible because I'm trying to find ways to help people transition - to have discourse, to hear feedback, etc. But we are now at a point where fewer than 2 thousand people are using V2 while more than 2 million are using V3. And with the looming technical challenges, we can't keep V2 going. The database isn't compatible. The code isn't compatible. The tech team is now forcing this.

Anyway, again, I know that doesn't matter that much to you. You just want a comfortable place to play chess. I'm hoping you will be able to make the transition to V3. If you absolutely cannot make the switch, then all I can say is thank you for being a part of Chess.com while you were here. The door is always open. For those of you who are unhappy but willing to accept help, I (or someone from our support team) will personally talk with any of you on video chat or whatever it takes if you sincerely need some help finding your way around. Just message me and we will set up a time.

I have mentioned this before, but if you want Chess.com to look/feel as much like V2 as possible, try the link www.chess.com/classic - but be aware that clicking on this link will change your background, your nav, and your /home configuration to be different (more like V2).

Thank you to all of you who have been patient, who have given feedback, and who have taken the time to help us bring as much of V2 over to V3 as we could. Also - and I mean this - thanks even to all of you who have been angry or said some unkind things! Your passion has been extremely motivating to us to work hard to please even the most ardent V2 supporters. And while I know we haven't won you all over, we've done our best and appreciate you participating in the discussion.

Sincerely,

Erik & the Chess.com Team

There is only 0.1% of the site that is using V2 (and I am one of them). Out of 2 MILLION active users, only 2000 are using it. He is not keeping V2 because a lot of people use it, but because he cares enough about the V2 community to keep it running for as long as he did :)

Since this thread has reached the saturation point for whatever value it may have had, I'm locking it.
