Captcha

So while I get it that the site needs to cut down on the spamming of messages but surely it makes sense to only apply the captcha to those that actually are spamming?

MarsAmbassador

Yes, it is annoying and highly disruptive meh.png

rampantlou

the captcha is annoying

Nate6586

I agree. The Captcha slows up everybody's process.

Tricky_Dicky

This is now the fifth attempt to implement this and seems no further forward. Just an annoyance to the majority who don't spend their time with useless posting and messages.

There is another site (I think we all know which) where the captcha is a very easy chess puzzle (mate in one) taken from the easy end of their puzzles collection. That works nicely. In the horrid thing that chess.com have implemented of late, I generally get it wrong as often as I get it right (perhaps more often). Too many characters are simply ambiguous or illegible.

MarsAmbassador

In general it seems to me that it is never entered the first time

WaterBend3r

It’s really hard to use even making the best guess at the codes say on an iPhone.  Verification should be automatically assigned to your userid, not burden users with authentication

nah

I dont get spammed at

Platypus

i hate the codes

MarsAmbassador

I think everyone who has been on the site for more than a year has not do such nonsense

I use messaging in my role as a team administrator to attract members to play in matches. Captcha makes that very onerous so I am now less inclined to build involvement in chess on this platform

Precisely. And I suspect this is also what has prompted @blackfirestorm to post this thread. For those sending occasional messages it is an irritation. For those involved in club admin it is migraine inducing. There simply must be a better way.

A a SA in numerous clubs I need to use PM's to recruit and ask members to sign up for matches.  The Captcha often tells says you entered the wrong code when clearly it is the right code.  The site is making it more difficult for admins to go about their duties.

blackfirestorm

+1 everyone

KingsWaterman

The Captcha is preventing Admins from performing their duties in an efficient and effective way.

I don't know why there isn't an exclusion for established members. It is a hammer solution, in my opinion, but my understanding is when it's in place, it's really needed.

Martin we don't doubt that it's needed it is more that it should only be used to penalise those that ARE spamming!!
