Reminds me of the ' boiled cabbage' saga.

I use messaging in my role as a team administrator to attract members to play in matches. Captcha makes that very onerous so I am now less inclined to build involvement in chess on this platform

Precisely. And I suspect this is also what has prompted @blackfirestorm to post this thread. For those sending occasional messages it is an irritation. For those involved in club admin it is migraine inducing. There simply must be a better way.

I don't know why there isn't an exclusion for established members. It is a hammer solution, in my opinion, but my understanding is when it's in place, it's really needed.

So as a diamond member I am subject to a catchall therefore I am spamming is that what you are saying?

No, you're not, but the CAPTCHA covers all accounts. Ideally, it would be less expansive.

It really needs to only affect those that do the spamming since it is them that causes it sad.png

I don't know the specifics of how the spamming is being done. My educated guess is there are a bunch of accounts that had been created and when the spammers are ready, they start using them to spam. But once the spamming starts it's impossible to tell how many other accounts, that are in the wings to continue the attack, will start sending messages.

The developers apparently found a method that mitigates the issue and trys to keep things stable. Again, I agree that the fix casts too large a net, but there could be valid reasons it's done that way

I don't have as much of an issue with the Captcha as I do with the graphics.

It's literally impossible to tell what most of them want, and all of them make it extremely difficult to distinguish between a capital and a lowercase word. So you're just sitting there constantly inputting the captcha wrong and the red box saying u got it wrong keeps building, and that covers ur screen angering u more.

Other than that I don't see the issue with just typing out a 4-7 word captcha, it takes 3 seconds.
