Catalonia is not a country, why a flag?
Because some people consider Catalonia a country, but no one in their right mind seriously thinks Texas is a country.
It could have been one but lost the opportunity because of a colonization war in 1861-1865. USA has shown then that some statements in is constitution were wrong like countries being independent and sovereign over the federal state, viewed as an agent.

If Texas were an independant sovereign state, it would have the tenth largest economy in the world.
You got me all wrong there. The ideology of the site (Chess.com) is not based on what the people identify themselves with, except for a few exceptions, but it is mainly based on the players' belonging to a sovereign state. My view is not based on politics at all but on everyone's feeling. If you narrowed it down to a Sovereign State flag, that is political. I am asking for the opposite.

No, it is Chess.com have got too political.
They are not about sport at all. They are about politics. It is very clear from their actions, whatever they say to us.
Try posting something political…it will be removed quicker than Trumps trousers when he sees a woman.😍
I'm not going. But Chess.com administration surprisingly never hesitate posting something political or even do something political. It is the fact you can't argue with.
All flags should be removed from this site. It triggers the neanderthal membership to fever pitch.
It so easy to make such a statement when you are among the privileged. You don't even have a stage flag... your nation is among the few ones recognised by Chess.com.

No. Flags allow someone to express there identity and they could always change to international.
If anything, the number of flags should be increased. Why not Mars, Venus, Pluto? Why not the Shire, Rohan, perhaps even Mordor?
Not true at all. Aboriginal Australians cannot show their own flag. Neither do the Acadians, the Quebecois, the Basques, the Tibetans.
It's like asking: International isn't a country, why have a flag? Chess.com must have some sort of reason for it, and I want to look at more interesting forums than this. Just looked at the title. I assume someone has already given proof on why chess.com has done this.

In case someone doesn't wanna show the country they live in or they move a lot.
Why couldn't Chess.com adopt the point of view of identification according to the feeling of belonging to a nation, rather than identification according to the player's belonging to a sovereign state? This way, it would be up to players to decide which nation they identify with and not Chess.com to play politics. So, if a player identifies more with Texas than with the United States, fine, that's their choice. If someone else identifies with the United Kingdom rather than Scotland, that is their choice too.
In my opinion, in the spirit of openness and acceptance of differences, Chess.com should allow all nations. This would allow us to open our minds to nations we may not know existed while playing chess. In this way, the Australian Aborigines, the Basques, the Tibetans, the Acadians, etc. could play under their own banner.
