Maybe it's related to your using ALL CAPS (shouting)? Which mIght be too loud for the site to work properly.
You could check for a 'difference' in settings between yourself and your friend.
eg. Check to see if you are on each other's "friends" list, check to see if one of you is 'blocking' the other. Check to see if someone's settings are blocking receiving challenges outside those settings.
