i am not. click. click and hold. click and then go to board.

nothing works with the  drag to resize for me.

(i may not have been a senior citizen in 1997, but, i may resemble one now)

it is obviously not like cropping pictures or using paint in photos.

drag to resize implies the function works just as it does in every other capacity with our windows and pictures. but it does not here.

jd, your partial screenshot does not help.

Here is a video: http://somup.com/cqiqIhejmQ is that more helpful?

Al, you will need to CLICK on the link.

I tried just staring at it, and trust me, that is not enough.

Same thing happened to me at the same time as you all reported it. The max size of the board is now smaller than it was earlier this morning. Resizing only can make it smaller. Player names are above and below the game board instead of above and below the "Move' side of the board. I like my board bigger.

Greengooner

Totally agree, Gouldenrod,

As it seems to have happened to many of us at the same time it must be something to do with the website rather than something we've done ourselves. On another forum I have been told how to solve it, but it requires a focus icon between the two pages and I can't seem to get one I just get "settings" "resize" and " flip board". Another member has shown me a screenshot of his pages with a fourth one, "focus". Cheers Alan

We did change the layout intentionally. We are going to be adding some new features in the coming months. The first step was redesigning the layout. Yes, it means the board is a bit smaller, but once you see what we have in store, I think you'll decide its worth it.

You should have identified yourself as such. Usually, there is a staff icon. Where is yours?

Jimmykay

sorry, I missed that.

@jdcannon - I hear you saying that there will be adequate compensation for this sac. I hope you are right! wink.png

Exactly.

The board resizing no longer works. This is really annoying - the board is too small now - and you cannot even remove the unnecessary code listing to the right which is taking up more space than the board.

Thank you jdcannon for your active participation as a staff member on this thread.

As a long time active chess.com member, I would also like to strongly state my preference for the large board layout.

The size of the board on the screen is the most practical, powerful, and sensible analog to a player's experience when playing across the board. Granted, when playing across the board, the player must use concentration and focus to maximize attention on the board and minimize the features of the playing environment.  The same can be said to be true when playing online.  Given this analog, should we not seek to minimize superfluous features that may present the quality of drawing attention away from the board, regardless of their attributes or value?

In the act of playing chess, are we seeking more stimulation that may draw the eye and focus away from the basic essence of the play on the board, or do we want to find ways to constantly nurture the practice of attention that is the core requirement of our game?

There are many values at play in these developments which may encompass, historical practices of play, human functioning, commerce, technology, aesthetics, and the evolution/s of chess.  We hope the leadership of chess.com has reasonable ways of unpacking these often competing values in a way that constantly enhances the practical experience of playing chess.

I think one thing doesn't exclude the other. Ok, new layout for daily chess, similar to live chess, but there you have the 'focus mode', to just watch the board, a bigger one. Why not something similar in daily chess in this new layout? It's quite annoying to see this small board and don't have another option. At least for me it's rather more difficult to calculate variations.

Something else, the icy sea background seems darker.

could you tell everyone what it is instead of this intentional tease?

also, if it does not include options for a larger board, staff should expect many complaints.

Even more confusing is the posting of 20+ comments without a straight answer for the author of this thread.  Then from posts #20 until now we are provided a video to clear up the apparent confusion for those "senior citizens from 1997" who are less technically inclined??
