Chess ratings difference

Hi everyone, great website, but I really don't get how ratings work.

Here are my ratings, 844 / 151 games / 89 wins.

The ratings of another guy,

82 games / 41 wins... 1318 ?!

How's that possible?? Why that difference? How can I increase my ratings it seems really slow to me?

Have a nice day!

Thank you

You have more wins, but they came against much lower rated players. The average opponent for you was rated 600 points lower than the other guy whose rating you showed.

You are doing pretty well against the lower rated players but you aren't exactly tearing them up. If you were, your rating would rise more rapidly. You had losing streaks early on that sent your rating downwards. It has improved about 300 points in the last three months. The other guy's rating has stayed pretty flat.

Your rating is progressing well.

Thanks for the answer!

What do you mean by not tearing them up?
I have pretty low ratings, so I only meet low ratings players...

Tearing them up means that you are not winning the vast majority of them. If you were, your rating would end up being a lot higher.
