I was disappointed to find that, as far as I can tell, the computer opponent at chess.com will be a poor gauge of my performance, due to its throwing games.
Perhaps I am making a faulty inference here, but it seems to me that there can be no lower standard for a computer opponent than the ability to avoid being mated when mate is not forcible. Observe the final move of the game below:
Am I wrong in thinking that the computer went from a winning position, or at least a position in which mate couldn't be delivered, to one in which it could? Despite being able to say I've beaten chess.com on the hard setting, I feel cheated, rather than exhilarated.
