Clock Issues

I think the clock logic in Chess.com is currently broken. I've seen this in several games, in a couple of ways:

- I started a game, when it was my turn to play - when white had made their first move -  I had already lost 10 seconds of time.

- On several games I have been way ahead on time, then suddenly lost on time. Each of my final moves would have been 0.5-1 seconds on my side - MAX - but chess.com is showing this as 1.5-2 seconds.

I have a high speed internet connection with a ping time of 36ms, so that is not the issue.

This has started happening recently.

Sounds like a regular case of lag and/or disconnect to the live server. Another member with an Australian fag posted an issue as well, so it's very likely something between you and the site is causing some excessive lag

Yep - see my post:

I doubt we both just happen to have terrible internet connections - probably some kind of international route issue if it is only affecting Aussies.

Possibly, but there's something fundamentally wrong in the way the server is handling time if a game is showing -10 seconds before the user gets a chance to respond. The client/server logic needs to be more tolerant of lag/network issues.

The site allows a certain amount of lag but doesn't allow all lag. They changed the method at one point; it used to be that each move had a maximum amount of forgivable lag and not it works like mentioned in the article.

Hmmm - it just happened to me again - first game I have tried to play since my earlier ones.

I noticed the same. For a few weeks ago you could ‘prepare’ your next move by tapping on the piece and whereto you wanted it to move this is not possible anymore

You can still do premoves if they're enabled in your settings.
