Clock stops at 1 minute instead of timing out

I’ve noticed Daily games where the time clock comes to a standstill at 1 minute remaining. It just stops at the 1 minute mark instead of timing out. The player is not on vacation time. Other games for the same player will time out like normal, but the standstill game remains stuck at 1 minute remaining. It’s eternal life for chess games. Why is this happening?

Yeah I've seen that too.

Not sure why it does that, though. Chess.com is a buggy place.

If you don't have the auto-claim on timeout feature turned on the games will sit like that until your opponent moves, you manually claim, or 60 days have passed since the last move.

Weird, the account where I last noticed this won by a timeout a few months ago. Odd setting to manually turn off. That would drive me crazy to have a game sitting there like that. He only has a few games so he has to have seen it, so it must be what he’s going for. Thanks for the explanation.

Pretty sure it's off by default

It was definitely default to be automatically on in May 2023 when I signed up and July of 2023 when my spouse signed up . And this guy’s account is from 2009, plus he had the automatic claim setting on a few months ago, so he had to have toggled it off.

If the default for new accounts is to have this setting off, that might not be the best default option.
