My account is resurrected, many thanks David!
I think if you're a premium member and you get closed, your money is just lost, but they're probably not so quick to close paying members. I think they may avoid spam filters.
If your account get closed, you should contact chess.com. One reason could be the spam filer if you have send to many identical messages in too short a time frame.
It is a known glitch in the chess.com spam filter. It mainly hits admins. Just be carefull of not posting/PM'ing too many idnetical messages in a short time frame.
However, should it happen, contact support@chess.com and they will re-open your account.
You can play chess for free, participate in tournaments with people all over the world for free, and discuss chess for free. It doesn't sound bad to me.
If you pay a few bucks you have a few advantages, but don't forget this is a private site.
Chess.com is a comercial site. But so what. You can do Many things here for free. I pay alittle extra pr year and I enjoy it. Best website for chess. no doubt about that.
In my opinion, it's weird that non-paying members are often delt like they're (we're) a burdon as the money goes. It is a commercial site for sure but I've never heard about the add revenue the site generates. If free search would be sucky in Google I doubt it wouldn't be the most profitable company in the world. People should be more knowledgeable about how the corporate world revolves in the internet era, traffic has a solid value. It's incorrect to think free members aren't bringing money with them. And sorry for missing the mark with the topic so bad! =) And yes, CC is awesome!
The official terminology is not "free" membership but "basic" membership because they also "pay" by having advertisements delivered to them. It allows people to come and try the site and decide for themselves whether they want to pay for the extra features that premium membership offers, rather than forcing people to pay a sum up front just to use the facilities.
Many other chess sites only have a 30 days free trial option and after that you have to pay up. I think chess.com does it well by offering a basic free membership with advertisement for as long as you want.
I cannot log in to my account. I know what my username and password is but it wont let me. I tried to click the "forgot my password" button and then use my email but it said my email was not affiliated with an account. I also tried to make a new account using that username and it said the username was already taken. It's been a while since I last logged in and I'm confused. I made this temporary account to seek assistance. Please help.
My old username was grahamtandrew
