admins esp those at admins corner , spam ba affects so many of us we need some safety belts here is something i think can help

admins contact via email friends option as virtual has suggested this allows for contact if an admin has spam ban set this up before ban is best

admins when posting match alerts a major cause for spam ban dont always use the same message  mix it up a bit and only contact 5 group members at a time , then take a few mins break ,

these measures will hopefully allow you to do the task without getting a spam ban , granted it takes longer to contact group members but you cannot contact any if you are banned

jamie you are in admin corner i think  if this issue has not been discussed with guidelines above could you set it in motion , thankyou

sartresghost

To Jamie, and everyone else, thanks for the support. I never got a clear explanation, but probably the simplest explanation is true, non-existent-me said a friend got booted for too many christmas messages all at once. My account was closed while I was in fact dropping christmas greetings into the notes of my groups and to some friends so maybe that is all it was.

There are some other possibilities, but I won't speculate on that here. Just let it be for now and wish you all  happy holidays.

I'm glad you are back. Sorry about making a topic, but my current connection situation is so poor, I could not submit a ticket.

VirtualKnightJoakim

Too may x-mas messages or trophies send it too short a time frame could do it. Cheers and good you came back so fast,

Always try to make each message unique...include name of person...add an extra simley or somehting and not too many in same 5-10 window.

Commander_Riker

He will be back :)

OK this is the official scoop on the Spam filter. It is not the quantity of things posted but the speed. I have been investigating this for years and have determined that if you post no faster then then every 90 secs you will never get caught by the spam filter. Anything any faster and hits the 12 - 15 posts at that speed will nab you. 90% are reinstated with a hand slap. I have known about 10 that have been permanently banned after many many time caught by the spam filter. I think BFD has the record of account closures due to the spam filter that is still here..

Makes sense - where did you hear that from?

I do know that premium members can be explicitly flagged as "Not a spammer" so they don't have this problem again: unfortunately, that's not available to basic members. They do need to contact Support about it, though.

VirtualKnightJoakim

I must confess, I have been closed  for "spamming" myself... I put in quotation mark as it was all legit and part of my admin duties...

Yes, speed is important, but I though also it helped to make each message/post unique??

Heard rumors that payed members have a higher spam quota, but not sure if right??

Commander_Riker

Ok I have been SA in so many groups I have lost count but I have known lots that have been nabbed and after having them tell me exactly what they were doing I have concluded the rate of posting and the quantity at that rate.

BTW if you were to even make the messages different and posted fast for 12 - 15 times you will still be nabbed.

Premium Members do get a little more leeway like 20 at a high rate of speed before nabbed. A SA or Admin of a group that is also a premium member gets the most leeway but still not exempt for the spam filter. In the case of BFD he was a premium member and SA in a zillion groups but had still been nabbed many times. So if you never want to experience the Spam Filter watch how fast you post and you will be fine :)))

just avoiding spam bot now lol posting match alerts as you do , glad to see you back sartresghost ,

but as long as this forum gets out to admins then hopefully it will lessen this happening , either that or chess.com offer amnesty for admins engaging in admin duties regardless of the account , subscriber or not

RuneTonseth

ive postet 100 last call for team matches in 10 min didnt get closed.

Bilbo21

Content only gets removed AFTER a period of time if you close yourself.
Satresghost was a good guy, I'm sure it was spambot or something similar

Bilbo21

oh, he's back.

That'll teach me to read to the end page of a forum ;)

You should send in a ticket asking for immunity, it does work

RonaldJosephCote

We can pretend he's not back and have a funeral for the poor guySmile Do you have to go to rehab when you come back?..Undecided  We should make it "mandatory" for 2016, like "in service" training.

VirtualKnightJoakim

Rune, you are a premium member and SA so you have higher quota. Where all your messagess identical (or did you include name or wary slightly)? Also, in addition to quota per 5 min, there is supposedly a 30 day's quota as well. It gets very complicated and maybe it has changes over time as well?

RuneTonseth

Joachim: I did not change the message. But a admin in my Group Battle For Victory experienced the same thing as Sartreghost. It was reopened one day later. It was a spam filter that automaticly turned on.

Afther some research I checked out. You are right Premium members do not have same filter. Its allowed to announce matches in the notes. It was not considered to be a Spam. Thats what the staff told me.

JamieDelarosa

I hope this topic has been helpful. Good information. Thanks.

VirtualKnightJoakim

sartresghost is not a premium member so it could explain that he got caught (more easily). I have seen that it is rarely automatically that you get restored after being ban by spam filter, so I recommend that you contact chess.com as soon as you find yourself banned.

BFD is premium, but has been banned several times by spam filter, so I do not think we yet fully understand how it works.

What you and Riker are telling are a little different, so some mystery remains?

But, if you are not a premium, definitely be careful about posting or messaging too much in a 5 minutes interval. Shaun once told me that it is worse if exactly the same content. But that was long time ago and maybe the settings have been changed since??

Bilbo21

If everybody knows how it works, and how to get around it, it isn't going to be very effective at stopping true spam.
My suggestion in the official suggestions forum was to respond by muting instead of disabling, and that was greeted with enthusiasm
