even if it's rated for live chess... can I choose the color I want to be? everytime it forces me to be white..... (curses) I'd like to be black lol.... any help?

In a unrated game you can choose your own color,

If it is rated, the system tries to split your color 50%/50% based too on your opponents 50/50.

If you challenge your opponent directly you can select your own color.

But generally it is split 50/50

Could depend on your opponents to Scottrf, 

Generally it tries to keep it to 50% though, 55 isnt too far off :)
