The Game Abandonment rule is that you cannot spend 50% of your time on a single move within the first 10 moves.
Having recently played a Blitz game where the position became very volatile on exactly move 10, I spent quite a bit of time because a wrong move could mean an instant loss due to king pressure. I was forfeited for game abandonment with no warning.
I'm wondering why it is necessary to enforce a strict timing policy, rather than popping up a warning on the player's screen that they have to click through to ensure that they are still active. If the concern is that they will click through it and then continue to time burn their opponent, I would say that they could easily do that regardless by playing a few extra moves to get to move 10. Abuse is unavoidable, but at least it won't risk real games being disrupted.
If the clock rule must be enforced, at least a heads-up that you are about to be forfeited would be nice.
