Changes the depth of the analysis...not sure the exact nature of the depth though. I know it is on the site here somewhere--time to go looking for it.
Game Analysis Q
It doesn't offer more lines, but it offers deeper, longer lines.
Gold is around ELO 2200
Platinum is around ELO 2400

Can't you just analyze your games with some chess engine? Then you can choose how long you want it to analyze = longer lines of analysis.

you can, but it is MUCH less convenient :)

Also, unless you have a REALLY fast computer, it tends to take a lot longer to do so. Doing it on your computer can bog your computer down for hours on end if you want long lines. Using the site's computers frees you up to do other things, like play more chess!

I don't see why you would want REALLY long lines! lol There is only so much of your own game you can analyse anyway and really long lines could take your game into billions of different positions. It's a nice feature now though and I can imagine that it will help thousands of people improve.
What happens if you have a higher elo rating than the analysis, that kind of defeats the purpose of it then? I am not trying to pick holes though, most players that are that strong wouldn't use it anyway I wouldn't think. I am just playing the devil's advocate!
This is a bit surreal, but can you imagine a bank of chess analysis computers all laughing away at our amateurish mistakes, then urging us to upgrade so they can have even more belly laughs. That's how I feel after some recent analysis!! Good thing I have a ridiculous sense of humour.

I feel shame for asking about something in the faq. I'll go sit in the corner for a while.
Thanks for the help though!

you are a BAD person. BAD! (chuckles)

I just had a game analyzed and noticed a link saying, "Want more accurate game analysis? Upgrade!" I knew that if I went from Gold to Platinum, I'd have up to 25 games a week that could be analyzed, but I didn't know it was a quality thing too!
Does the computer chew on the moves a little longer for Platinum members? Does it offer more lines?
I am strongly considering upgrading anyway (so I can give the free Gold membership to a friend), and this might push me over the edge...
